Tere,
Edastame le vaadatud ksimustiku.
Miks selliseid andmeid ksitakse nii pika viivitusega?

Subject: Annual questionnaire on aviation - 2017 data
Dear colleagues,
Traditionally (but a little bit later than usual) we are launching the annual exercise to collect
non-regulatory data on the air transport sector based on a pre-filled questionnaire.
The questionnaire (Excel file) for your country is available on CIRCABC: Library >
06_aviation > data_monitoring > no-regulatory_questionna > 2017 data
Please report any problems in accessing Circabc back to me.
The questionnaire includes two sections:
- country national data on the number of airports and transport equipment
please focus more specifically on minor airports and fleet data, if possible
(details below)
- main airports detailed data on infrastructure and employment
The data have been pre-filled as much as possible and the data sources are as follows:
General part
Infrastructure : number of airports Eurostat (list of airports reporting data)
Equipment: national fleet Airclaims/Ascend (Data from DG MOVE)
Individual airport part
A-Z world airport web site (and similar web sites)
Please note the section on number of airports follows the modifications introduced two years
ago by adding one more airport type: 1.3 Minor airports [ Airports below 15 000 passenger
units/year] in order to cover all commercial airports in a country. Please verify the number of
minor airports with special attention, because Eurostat has not always been able to pre-fill the
exact number of such airports (as they are not under reporting regime within the legal act).
As discussed during the last WG meeting in March 2017 and CGST in October 2017 Eurostat
continues the dissemination of the number of Major and Other airports only. The possibility of
dissemination of the number of Minor airports will be discussed during the next WG in March
2019. Eurostat considers the information on the minor airports as an improvement in the data
consistency and as an additional statistical information on air transport infrastructure in a
country. That is why Eurostat encourages all the countries to verify/provide the number of
minor airports (commercial ones) in the questionnaire and (if possible) any methodological
notes on the variable (definition, coverage or threshold applied).
As concerns fleet data Eurostat (thanks to the data provided by DG MOVE) is able to prefill
the number of aircraft registered in each country (with age and aircraft type breakdown).
Recently we noticed some inconsistencies in the data already disseminated (due to some issues
in attributing some aircrafts - registered in a third country but operated by an airline registered
in another country - to appropriate country. For some of you the total number of aircrafts was
bigger than the sum of sub-categories. Thats why we have tried to update the 2016 figures
accordingly and prefill the 2017 with the data which cover all aircrafts. I would be very grateful,
if you could take a closer look at 2016 figures as well and let me know if you are able to validate
them as prefilled. We are also checking the figures for the years 2010-2015, so if needed, I
might contact you specifically on this.
As you know, the annual questionnaire on aviation is a voluntary exercise and therefore, you
may decide not to check these results. Please note that in such case only the number of airports
and fleet data will be disseminated (as prefilled by Eurostat). For the countries which don't
validate/provide any data please inform us on the main obstacles preventing from
transmitting such information. But before declining, please consider that the data which are
collected via the questionnaire are of big interest to the external users. For example, during last
12 months (October 2017-September 2018) Eurobase table on number of airports in the
reporting countries (avia_if_arp) was the third top downloaded table on air transport statistics.
External users downloaded the table almost 5200 times.
Eurostat very much count on your engagement in enriching the information on air transport
infrastructure, fleet and employment.
In case you do check the results please provide us with your remarks and/or additional or
corrected figures for year 2017 (and 2016, if needed). Even if there are no changes compared to
2016, please let us know about it. The deadline for responses is end of February 2019.
Please inform us on any contact person change in order to update our distribution list.
Thank you in advance for your contribution in the exercise.
Best regards,
Anna
