We are writing on behalf of the European Commission's Directorate-General
for Trade (DG Trade), which has commissioned a Sustainability Impact
Assessment (SIA) of the EU-Thailand Free Trade Agreement. The SIA is being
conducted by Milieu Consulting, in cooperation with the London School of
Economics Consulting, Tutwa Europe, and the Thailand Development Research
Institute (TDRI). A letter of support from DG Trade is attached.

We are reaching out to ask for your support in disseminating a short
business survey to your members and network. The survey aims to collect
opinions on the EU-Thailand FTA from businesses, including SMEs, to feed
into the negotiations. It takes approximately 15 minutes to complete and
covers trade conditions, expected impacts, and business concerns related
to the FTA. You can find the link to the survey here

It is also available in Thai and all official EU languages. The survey

Subject: Trade Sustainability Impact Assessment (SIA) in support of Free Trade
Agreement (FTA) negotiations between the EU and Thailand – Stakeholder
Consultation
Dear Sir/Madam,
The EU and Thailand are negotiating on a Free Trade Agreement (FTA). In line with the
practice for EU FTA negotiations, the European Commission has commissioned an
independent consortium to carry out a Sustainability Impact Assessment (SIA), in order to
analyse potential impacts of the future agreement and provide insights into the negotiating
process.
This SIA is being conducted by Milieu Consulting, in cooperation with the consulting arm
of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE Consulting) and Tutwa
Europe. It is also supported by the Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI).
The SIA is meant to analyse potential economic, social, environmental, and human rights-
related effects of the agreement, for both the EU and the Kingdom of Thailand. The SIA
combines a horizontal analysis and in-depth sectorial analysis for areas of specific
relevance. Building on these, the SIA will put forward conclusions and recommendations.
An extensive range of activities for stakeholders’ engagement is an integral part of the SIA
research, including surveys and interviews with key stakeholders.
These will aim at gathering a comprehensive set of views and inputs from a broad group
of EU and Thai stakeholders, representing different interests and areas of expertise, as well
as at fostering awareness and transparency on the ongoing negotiations.
We therefore invite you to contribute to the SIA by participating in the forthcoming
consultation activities. Your contribution will allow for your organisation’s experience and
viewpoints to be reflected in the study, thereby feeding into the FTA negotiations. It will
thereby enhance the robustness of the SIA’s consultations exercise.
