Preliminary Assessment of the ‘Estonian Ancient Wooded Meadows’ (Estonia)
Dear Ambassador,
ICOMOS and IUCN acknowledge with thanks the receipt of the Preliminary Assessment request for the
Estonian Ancient Wooded Meadows.
As the World Heritage Centre has notified us that the request is complete, ICOMOS and IUCN are now
ready to start the work on your request. We and our teams look forward to the dialogue with you and your
authorities during and beyond this Preliminary Assessment process.
In line with Paragraph 122 of the Operational Guidelines for the Implementation of the World Heritage
Convention, States Parties are encouraged to appoint a technical focal point to ensure effective dialogue
throughout the Preliminary Assessment process. Subsequently, ICOMOS and IUCN would be pleased to
receive the name and contact details of your appointed focal point.
ICOMOS and IUCN would like to propose that a first meeting between the Advisory Bodies and the State
Party be held in order to present the Preliminary Assessment process, the Advisory Bodies working
calendar as well as discuss the background of the Preliminary Assessment request. ICOMOS and IUCN
would kindly request the participation of both cultural and natural heritage representatives, if possible. A
diagram presenting the timeline of the Preliminary Assessment process has been included in Annex 1 of
the present letter.
It is suggested that this online meeting take place on Monday 17 November at 10:00 (Paris time). We
would be grateful to receive confirmation of the State Party’s availability to attend this meeting, as well as
the list of individuals who will be participating.
Following this meeting, ICOMOS and IUCN, in conjunction with the appointed focal point, will continue the
dialogue through requests for additional information and clarifications on some key aspects of the potential
nominated property, with the possibility of organising online meetings as necessary or as requested.
