Subject: Appointment as Executive Director of the EUIPO
Dear Sir/Madam
It is with pleasure that I can inform you that the Council of the European Union has decided to
appoint me as Executive Director of the European Union Intellectual Property Office for a term of
office of five years as from 1 October 2018.
I would like to take this opportunity to confirm my strong commitment to consolidating the
achievements and results pursued by the Office’s successive Strategic Plans on the basis of its two
guiding principles of remaining a collaborative organization and promoting international
cooperation. With the support of the European Intellectual Property Network, the Office will
endeavour to take the European cooperation on IP rights to an even higher level, in order to cope
with rapid growth and demand for IP rights while ensuring that they are respected and enforced
within the European Union and beyond.
Furthermore, the Office will continue to focus on involving users in its activities and reinforcing
cooperation with the EU Member States, candidate and third countries, as well as EU institutions
and international partners, with a view to shaping the global IP landscape and promoting a dynamic
environment for the growth of European business and entrepreneurship.
