On October 15, 1 arrived in Riga to assume my duties as Representative of the Taipei Mission in Latvia, concurrentiy accredited to Estonia. It is a profound honor to serve here and to engage with you in this capacity. 1 wish to extend my heartfelt gratitude for the enduring friendship and support frorn the governrnent, parliarnent, and people of Estonia toward Taiwan. Your understanding and encouragernent are invaluable to our sharcd future endeavors. We ali recognize the hardships irnposed by authoritarian rule, which only strengthens our resolve to upliold freedom and dernocracy. Today, we face renewed chailenges as authoritarian powers expand their influence—Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine and China’s military provocations near Taiwan threaten regional stability and underscore the urgent need for dernocracies to unite in confronting hybrid threats. Together, we must fortify cooperation to dcfend dernocratic institutions, safeguard supply chains, and prevent coercion. There are also significant opportunities for partnership in area such as defense, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and unrnanned systems, where our shared expertise can yield mutual benefits. In recent years, ties between our two countries have flourished through collaboration in cybersecurity, hurnanitarian assistance, high-tech industries, education, and culture. With this solid foundation and your steadfast support, 1 ain confident we can achieve even greater progress. 1 look forward to deepening our partnership in advancing a secure, prosperous, and rules-based international order anchored in freedorn and democracy.
