On behalf of the President of the Constitutional Court of Latvia Mr. Aldis Laviņš in capacity as member of the Bureau of the World Conference on Constitutional Justice I hereby inform that the 20th meeting of the Bureau will be held in Venice on 11 March 2023. In order to coordinate exchange of information among the European Member Courts, we are sending you the draft agenda of the Bureau meeting. In case your esteemed Courts would like to submit comments on any of the issues of proposed agenda, please, send them to this e-mail until March 7, so that we can collect them and take into account when representing the European Member Courts at the Bureau meeting. The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia also would like to propose for inclusion in the agenda of the Bureau meeting the issue of whether, how, and to what extent WCCJ may and should get involved in seeking for a legal solution to the aggression and crimes against humanity that are being committed by the Russian Federation against Ukraine. In the opinion of the Constitutional Court of Latvia, taking into account that Russian activities are in blatant disregard of the international legal order, they also constitute a threat to the rule of law, internationally and nationally, while upholding the rule of law is one of the principal tasks of constitutional courts. We would be very grateful to receive your opinion on this issue as well. On behalf of the President of the Constitutional Court of Latvia Mr. Aldis Laviņš, I would like to submit his letter dated as of 25 November 2022 with a kind request to forward it to Presidents of European Member Courts of the World Conference on Constitutional Justice (WCCJ)! This letter has been sent to all European Member Courts of the WCCJ to their official e-mail addresses with the aim of ensuring a transparent and comprehensive exchange of information regarding coordination and representation of interests of European Member Courts at the Bureau of the WCCJ. The Constitutional Court of Latvia as a representative of the European Member Courts at the Bureau has established a special email address ([email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>) to coordinate the exchange of information among the European Member Courts in regard to the issues of the Bureau of the WCCJ. I would be grateful if you would acknowledge receipt of this letter and also send to us a contact information of the authorized persons regarding communication on issues related to the competence of the WCCJ. At least for now, the meeting of the Bureau is planned for March 17. The information about topics of agenda will follow, so all European Member Courts will have an opportunity to express their opinion.
