I am pleased to announce the finalization of the process of preparing our joint nomination of the intangible cultural heritage element “Ukrainian pysanka: tradition and art” to the Representative List of UNESCO. Our cooperation in the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage is another example of the development of strong partnership between Ukraine and Estonia. I am sincerely grateful to the Ministry of Culture of Estonia and Estonian citizens for supporting Ukrainians in preserving our traditions abroad, because the Ukrainian pysanka was included in the Estonian National list in 2015 as recognition of the culture of Ukrainians living in Estonia. It is very symbolic that the nomination will be submitted this year – in the year when Ukraine celebrates the 15th anniversary of the ratification of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage and the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention, and will demonstrate at the international level the importance of supporting Ukrainian traditions, which for many years have been subject to persecution and which were preserved thanks to the unconquerability of the Ukrainian nation.
