IHO Assembly document A.1/MISC/03 – List of Decisions of the 1 st Session of the IHO Assembly – Decision 20 . B. Council Circular Letter 02/2017 dated 8 June 2017 – Call for election of Chair and Vice Chair of the IHO Council Dear Hydrographer , As directed by the Assembly at Reference A, Reference B invited Members of the IHO Council to vote by correspondence to elect the Chair and the Vice Chair of the IHO Council in advance of its first meeting in October. By the closing date for the submission of voting papers (9 July 2017), 23 of the 30 Members of the Council had submitted voting papers. Result of Voting for Chair No objections were raised against the election of the sole nominee for the position of the Chair of the Council. Rear Admiral Shepard M. SMITH (United States of America) is therefore declared as the Chair of the IHO Council, with immediate effect. Result of Voting for Vice-Chair Voting for the position of the Vice-Chair was as follows: Admiral ( Retired ) Luiz Fernando PALMER Fonseca ( Brazil ) 10 votes Mr Mohammad RASTAD (Iran (Islamic Republic of)) 3 votes Captain Luigi SINAPI (Italy) 10 votes Given the tied result for the position of Vice-Chair, it is proposed that the election of the Vice Chair now be made at the first meeting of the Council to be held in Monaco from 17 to 19 October 2017. In the meantime, the Secretariat will work with the Chair to prepare for the first meeting.
