3rd Extraordinary meeting of the
IALA Legal Advisory Panel
IALA Headquarters, 30‐31 October 2017
Dear IALA National member,
The first Preparatory Diplomatic Conference for the transformation of IALA into an Intergovernmental Organization,
held in Paris in April this year, agreed a road map containing the next steps towards the successful completion of the
project. The next three steps are:
May ‐ September 2017: The Secretariat receives written comments on the draft IALA Convention and the draft
General Regulations from members and their governments until the end of September 2017.
October 2017: The Secretariat collates all received written comments and makes them available on the
dedicated web site.
30‐31 October 2017: The IALA Legal Advisory Panel, open to all National members, develops amended draft
texts for the IALA Convention/General Regulations, as appropriate.
The purpose of this letter is to invite you or your representative(s) to take part in the extraordinary meeting of the
IALA Legal Advisory Panel that will be held at IALA Headquarters on 30 & 31 October 2017. This will be the third
time that all National members are invited to work together on the project in an informal and open manner.
The meeting will be devoted to building on the comments received from members and Governments, and to
developing refined draft texts for the IALA Convention and the General Regulations for consideration by the second
Preparatory Diplomatic Conference tentatively scheduled for 7‐8 February 2018 in Casablanca, Morocco. The
working language of the meeting will be English and the agreed output documents will be in English with French and
Spanish versions prepared after the meeting.
The input documents will be posted to the Website in October.
