Subject: RE: About registration
Hello,
Our office is responsible for the registration of inland waterway vessels. As for maritime vessels (including
yachts), it is necessary to contact the Maritime Authority of the Czech Republic, which is part of the Ministry of
Transport (try to contact
[email protected]).
And now the answers:
Ad 1. Registration shall be subject to all vessels
a) with a total weight exceeding 1,000 kilograms including permitted load,
b) driven by power exceeding 4 kW, or
c) with the total sail area exceeding 12 m2.
Small vessels up to 20 meters in length are registered in the register of small craft, others in the shipping
register.
Ad. 2 The main documents are proof of acquire and a protocol on technical inspection of the vessel.
Ad 3. No.
Ad 4. Yes.
Ad 5. No, the approval of technical capability through an inspection is a necessary condition for registration.
Ad 6. Our law knows the term "operator" of the vessel (usually is identical to owner, but not always). If this is
the legal entity or natural person established in the Czech Republic, the vessel can be registered in our registry.
And one big plea at the end.
I would like to ask you for a big favour. We would appreciate it if you could provide us either directly with the
information or with contacts to the national authorities in your country which have the relevant data on:
1. Seaworthiness stipulations applicable to small and pleasure crafts in inland navigation;
2. Stipulations concerning their registration;
3. Certificates issued in connection with their seaworthiness and registration.
Thank you in advance for any information.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Ladislav Misek
