Dear Laurent,
Thank you for your letter regarding the Coastal Mapping Project. I have
been authorized to reply you on this issue. I apologize that I was not
able to reply before the end of January, but since the stakeholder
meeting is tomorrow then perhaps it is still possible to consider our
feeling and first reaction as requested.
The Maritime Administration of Estonia (MAE) understands the importance
of the coastal mapping project and supports the idea of marine data
availability for purposes of analysis to serve the aim of environmental
protection, coastal zone management and economic development. MAE
recognizes the wider need of marine data than just navigation and is
involved in providing data for EMODnet, INSPIRE and other European and
local projects. It is our opinion that the Coastal Mapping Project (CMP)
should make use of the data available through sources like INSPIRE and
EMODnet if that is technically possible and if the data is sufficient
for CMP. If the data available in mentioned sources is not sufficient or
is not technically possible to use in CMP then the data should be
acquired from the source directly from National HO or other governmental
organization as HO is not always the primary source of coastal data CMP
is asking for.
If there’s any questions regarding this subject, please don’t hesitate
to contact us.
Best regards,
Olavi
