Dear Minister Riina Sikkut, On behalf of the International Longevity Centre UK (ILC-UK) and ILC Europe Network (ILC-Europe), please find attached a letter outlining Estonias current position on healthy ageing and prevention. We hope to engage with you further on this matter, and ILC-UK and ILC- Europe is at your disposal for any questions relating to the or our . I look forward to hearing from you. Kind regards, David Sinclair Chief Executive, ILC-UK Dear Minister Riina Sikkut, This year, the International Longevity Centre UK (ILC-UK) – the UK’s leading authority on the impact of longevity on society – launched the Healthy Ageing and Prevention Index at the 76th World Health Assembly in Geneva. The Healthy Ageing and Prevention Index is an online interactive tool which ranks 121 countries and nine political and economic country blocs – including the EU – on six healthy ageing metrics: life span, health span, work span, income, environmental performance, and happiness. This Index aims to hold governments to account on healthy ageing and inform decision makers on what can be done to maximise the economic benefits of living longer and investing in preventative health. Currently, Estonia ranks 30th overall and 18th in the EU27. As part of our Index work, we would like to take the opportunity to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing your country’s healthy ageing prospects. The potential ‘longevity dividend’ of improving prevention and supporting longer and healthier working lives remains a key opportunity for your nation. Since launching the Index, it’s been visited more than 5,000 times from users in more than 50 different countries and endorsed by the Singaporean Health Minister and Canadian Minister of Mental Health and Addictions. We’ve also taken our findings to the G7 Finance Ministers’ and Central Bank Governors’ meeting and the G7 Leaders’ Summit in Japan and the G20 in India. For the last four years, ILC-UK has engaged with expert stakeholders to highlight that investing in preventative interventions, like life course immunisation, can ensure that people not only live longer lives, but healthier lives too. Across the G20, a 0.1% increase in preventative health spend can unlock an additional 9% of annual consumer spending by people aged 60 or over. On 6 March 2024, our colleagues at the ILC Europe Network will be hosting an event in Brussels exploring healthy ageing in Europe. We would be delighted if you could join this event to discuss your country’s Index score and progress. More details about the event can be found here. If you are able to attend, please respond to this email with your confirmation. I look forward to hearing from you. Yours sincerely, David Sinclair Chief Executive, ILC-UK
