One of the priority areas of HIPP is the Health in Prisons European Database (HIPED) survey. The survey collects vital data on several indicators on the performance of prison health and on the health status of the prison population being a valuable source of information for academics, and to support policy-makers for evidence-based action in this area. The last round of the survey took place in 2021- 2022, with 36 Member States contributing, and resulted in the Status report on prison health in the WHO European Region (2023), and the main indicators available through the Global Health Observatory. The survey includes eight sections, one of them capturing prison statistics and the other seven based on the WHO Prison Health Framework. With this letter, I am pleased to invite you to nominate an expert in the field of prison health in your country who will be responsible for completing the HIPED survey in early 2024. It is expected that the survey focal point is a recognized expert in prison health, who is also encouraged to contact other ministries, sectors or individual experts in the field to obtain relevant information in answering the survey questions. I am also pleased to invite you to nominate a country representative to attend a professional, on- line development course for national counterparts and clinicians Prison’s resilience to infectious diseases, an online course starting on the 25 th of September 2023. The course, taking place during five months, will contain a total of 9 contact hours (1.5 hours per month) and an estimated independent study time of 9 hours. The country representative should ideally be a healthcare worker with direct patient contact who has good communication skills so that he/she can become trainers to provide the same training to others in the country. At the conclusion of the course, participants will receive a certificate of successful participation and completion of course material. This certificate will be issued by United Kingdom Health Security Agency.
