Ref.: C.L.29.2023
The World Health Organization (WHO) presents its compliments to Member States and
has the honour to inform them that estimates for noncommunicable disease risk factors and
conditions, including physical inactivity, body mass index, underweight, overweight, and
obesity, and diabetes, as derived from statistical models, are being prepared.
Following WHO’s quality standards for data publication and prior to the official release of
the above estimates, WHO is consulting its Members States to review, comment and provide
advice on the comparable estimates for these disease and risk factor estimates and to ensure that
latest country data have been identified and used for production of the comparable estimates.
These consultations will be conducted via email with a designated person as country focal
point. To ensure accurate and timely estimates for your country, the designation of the focal
point, together with contact details, should be sent no later than 8 September 2023 to the
Department of Noncommunicable Diseases, by email, to
[email protected].
Upon nomination, the focal point will receive the preliminary estimates of physical
inactivity in adults, and body mass index, underweight, overweight and obesity in adults and
adolescents and accompanying documentation electronically. The country consultation process
for these estimates will close in October 2023. Any submissions after this date may not be
considered in the final publication of country estimates.
Preliminary estimates of diabetes and preliminary estimates of physical inactivity in
adolescents will be shared in late 2023 and 2024, respectively.
The World Health Organization takes this opportunity to renew to Member States the
assurance of its highest consideration.
